Ash tree (Fraxinus Excelsior)

Ash is used in Windsor chair making being very strong and resilient and able to withstand shocks,

used in the round of 6 to 10 inches in diameter and is selected and felled during the winter  before the sap has risen and used when it is green, all the parts made are then stored until used from March to September.

‘Green Ash’ is used in making all the round parts of a Windsor chair – legs, stretchers, crinoline stretcher, bows and spindles, with its great resilience and strength the chair will last for many generations.
