Bobbin Bow Lathe

The principle and use of this lathe is the same as a pole lathe, having a reciprocal action only allowing the user to cut when a piece of wood is turning towards the turner.

This very satisfying and original method of turning is thousands of years old and is still used today in many parts of the world, using no fossil fuel, the driving power is by treadle or bow, with a cord wound twice round the piece requiring to be turned.

Not only is it still used for making round parts for Windsor Chairs, it is also for making wooden bowls, platters and goblets by skilled crafts men, giving all the items turned there individual appearance.
