Child’s Windsor Chubby Chair in Yew, Elm and Ash
This child’s chair is in the style of an adult Smokers/Captains Windsor chair.
Timber used for the seat of the chair is hand carved from a 1½ inch thick solid piece of Elm shaped for comfort, with a decorative scribed line round the edge, it also has a small front pommel.
The arm is hand carved to shape from three pieces of Elm, thus showing the beautiful grain of the wood.
The eight Yew spindles have a pattern of ball, concave, with a fine ring and another smaller fine ring at the bottom of the leg.
By including Yew for the spindles, showing the creamy colour of the sapwood, which contrasts nicely against the darker heartwood, it makes for a higher quality Windsor chair.
Straight grained and quickly grown Ash is used to make the four legs, which have a chubby appearance complemented by chunky turned ‘H’ stretcher supports. All patterned turned parts are made on a Bobbin-Bow Lathe.
