Continuous Bow Windsor chair in Yew, Elm and Ash
The Continuous Windsor chair has a top framing made in Yew, straight grained, then steam bent the arm and back bow being made from single lengths, the crook arm support blends neatly into the arm with twelve spindles giving lower back support and comfort, this gives the chair its attractive continuous flowing line, the bow also has a decorative scribed line.
The seat is hand carved from a 2 inch thick solid piece of Elm, shaped for comfort with a decorative scribed edge; it also has a small front pommel.
Straight grained and quickly grown Ash is used in the making of the rest of the chair, all the underside, round parts - the fours legs have a pattern of a ball, single ring, small concave and single ring, and another single ring on the lower end of the leg, the short back stretchers have a ball and tapered swell fitted to the crinoline stretcher then fitted into the back legs.
All patterned turned parts in this chair are made on a Bobbin–Bow Lathe.
Two coats of finishing oil and two applications of high quality wax polish to achieve a very deep lustre finish.
