Double Bow-Back Windsor chair in Elm and Ash

The seat is hand carved from a 2 inch thick solid piece of Elm shaped for comfort with a decorative scribed line round the edge of the seat, it also has a small front pommel

Ash, which is straight grained and quickly grown, is used to make the rest of the parts of the chair.

The top and arm bows are steam bent with the underarm construction consisting of a main turned post with a ring, middle tear drop swell and lower ring, elliptical short spindles complete this support  - the top bow is fitted into the arm bow with a through joint, it also has a scribed edge line, the ten elliptical straight spindles go through the back of the arm bow and are fitted into the top bow.

The four legs have a pattern of four rings, ball, three rings and a single ring at the lower end of the leg, the short back stretchers have a ball and tapered swell fitted to the crinoline stretcher then fitted into back legs.

All patterned turned parts on this chair are made on a Bobbin Bow Lathe.

This chair is also available with using Yew for the top frame construction.

Two coats of finishing oil and two applications of high quality wax polish to achieve a very deep lustre finish.

Every chair comes with a photographic album on how a Windsor chair is made.
