Comb-Back Windsor Rocking Chair in Elm and Ash

The seat, arms and comb of this chair is made in Elm  -the seat is hand carved   from a 2 inch thick solid piece, shaped for comfort, with a decorative scribed line round the edge, it also has a small front pommel, both arms are shaped and hand carved, with turned arm supports and three elliptical spindles in Ash, the carved comb at the top of the chair is steam bent giving a comfortable curve.

Ash, which is straight grown and quickly grown, is used to make the rest of the chair.

The hand carved back posts supporting the arms and comb have a decorative ball and fine ring at the top and the ten elliptical spindles making up the back of the chair are steam bent to give a comfortable lower back support.

The four legs have a pattern of an inverted cup, small concave and single ring, the two supporting cross stretchers having convex and one fine centre ring. All patterned turned parts in this chair are made on a Bobbin-Bow Lathe. The two steam bent rockers give this chair its lovely slow rock

After two coats of finishing oil and two applications of high quality wax polish, the very deep lustre finish is achieved.

Every chair comes with a photographic album of how a Windsor chair is made.
