High Bow Windsor Rocking Chair in Elm and Ash.

The seat for the chair is made from a 2 inch thick solid piece of Elm, shaped for comfort, with a decorative scribed line round the edge of the seat, it also has a small front pommel.

Straight grained and quickly grown Ash is used for all the rest of the chair.

The Ash is steam bent to form the high bow and the short shaped arm bows, these are hand carved and shaped with turned arm supports and three elliptical short spindles, The high top bow is fitted into both arm bows with a through joint, this also has a decorative scribed edge line.

.

The back elliptical spindles are steam bent to give a lower lumber support and are fitted into the top bow.

The four legs have a turned pattern of four rings, a ball and three rings, the two supporting cross stretchers having convex and one fine centre ring. All patterned turned parts in this chair are made on a Bobbin-Bow Lathe.

The two Ash steam bent rockers give the Elm and Ash High Bow Rocking chair its lovely slow rock.

This chair is also available with using Yew for the top frame construction.

Two coats of finishing oil, two applications of high quality wax polish achieve the very deep lustre finish.

Every chair comes with a photographic album of how a Windsor chair is made.
