Jim Steele has been making Windsor chairs using his skills and traditional methods, for nearly twenty years.

He makes ten styles of Windsor chairs and stools to order.

British woods are used for his chairs. Elm for seats, Ash for the frame, legs and stretchers and Yew for making the higher quality chairs.

A Bobbin bow Lath is used to turn legs, stretchers and shorter arm spindles.

All curved and bent parts in the chairs are steam bent, using hand tools for the final shaping and finishing, giving each of his chairs a unique and individual appeal.

Once an order is placed each Windsor chair is custom made to fit the person’s ergonomic stature. Getting these details can be achieved by visiting Jim at the events he attends, or by visiting his workshop.

Each chair comes with a small personalised photo album showing how the chair was made, with location maps of where the wood was sourced.

Ordering time is usually 12 to 18 months.

Stools (not chairs) are sometimes available to purchase at shows.
